Sharp's Brewery Bottled Ales

Following on from the outstanding success of Chalky's Bite, Sharp's Brewery have launched a second beer in the Chalky's series called Chalky's Bark. This time they have brewed the beer a touch weaker at 4.5% and lightly flavoured with fresh ginger.

Rick Stein described the latest brew as "fragrant with the flavour of hops" and said that at an alcohol strength of 4.5 per cent he hopes people will enjoy drinking a couple of bottles. "It's a beer with a lot of bark but not quite so much bite" he said.

Sharp's Head Brewer, Stuart Howe, said of his new creation "Chalky's Bark is very different, however, we are just as delighted with the result and we hope it will be as well received as the first beer.  It is a spiced ale, bottle conditioned and we have used fresh ginger to bring spice and warmth to the beer. It is a beer to be enjoyed for itself, but also something we have developed for its potential to match with food. I am excited about the reaction Chalky's Bark might receive."

The idea for Chalky's Bite came about as a challenge from Rick Stein to Sharp's Head Brewer Stuart Howe.

The task was to create a distinctly English beer with the character, individuality and quality to stand alongside the Belgian greats.

The beer created is exceptional with a delicate flavour balance of three different hop varieties and wild Cornish fennel. With a totally natural process and a maturation period of over three months the beer is allowed ample time to develop a high level of carbonation, its own distinctive flavour and a beautiful light golden colour.

Chalky's patience whilst attending the many development and sampling sessions at the Brewery is justifiably rewarded in the name.

Doom Bar Bitter is named after an infamous sandbank at the mouth of the Camel Estuary in north Cornwall. The Doom bar is at its most dangerous between low and high tides when it is submerged by just a few feet. Unsuspecting mariners can easily become stranded or in extreme weather shipwrecked.

Doom Bar Bitter embodies many characteristics which makes it worthy to carry the name of this natural wonder. It's distinctive aroma and very fine balance sets it truly apart from other beers, taking unsuspecting first time drinkers by surprise with its moreish appeal. Doom Bar has achieved an international cult status, is considered one of the fastest growing beer brands in the UK and is the best selling locally produced beer in the entire South West region.

"The aroma of Doom Bar is an accomplished balance of spicy resinous hop, inviting sweet malt and delicate roasted notes. The mouth feel is a perfectly balance and complex blend of succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malty notes and a subtle yet assertive bitterness. The bitterness remains into the finish with dry fruity notes which implore the drinker to go back for more."

India pale ale was first brewed in the 19th Century. Naturally preserved by the high alcohol and strong hops, the beer was well set to survive the long and hot journey under sail to India. As a brewery sitting on Cornwall's Atlantic coast the naming of this beer came naturally.

The RNLI's commitment to saving lives at sea is legendary and to support this cause, a proportion of all sales of Atlantic IPA will be donated to the RNLI.
